2009 Suburban Bowhunting Adventures POst #11

August 28th, 2009: I went to check out my camera at LLE I decided since most of the bucks are coming out of the timber through the thick cover instead of using the open path, I put another camera on a tree at 5 ft in the thickest multi-flora rose patch. I think that it will reveal that there are bigger bucks on the outside of the of the other camera's range.

I spoke with my good friend and he is going to loan me his canoe for opening morning. So that I can boat across the lagoon to one of my hunting spots. I am going to go in and put up a stand the night before opening day. or I am going to go in and hunt with a ground blind. Either way I will be able to hunt my does easily this way.

These bucks are pretty awesome. I am hoping I am going to get a chance at one of them.

Tuesday August 25-2009: A good buddy of mine Jeremiah Grooms introduced me to a landowner who owns 17 acres across from where I hunt at LL Estates. The landowner was really nice and said I could hunt there anytime. I have been working pretty hard at putting out trail cameras and corn to try and catch what bucks and does I have in the area. Check out some of these videos below

8/24/09
Dear fellow bowhunters,

With all the talk about "going green" and "carbon footprint" it got me to thinking, "How much do I spend on non-American made items, and is there a simple way for me to balance my own personal "trade deficit" with China and non-American manufactures, packagers, assemblers? So I started looking at my own "not made in America purchasing footprint" or Non-American Purchasing Footprint (NAPF)

I was not impressed...so now before I purchase anything that is a "want", I am asking or researching if its actually, "made in America by American workers". I did not realize how much of our hunting equipment is imported from China. I am not trying to start a "who's better" debate. What I am trying to do is see if any of the rest of you on here realize how much hunting gear is imported from China. Its almost hypocritical how all of these Television Personalities get on TV and profess how they are "proud to be an American" but they promote and profess products that are definitely not made in America. Products that could be made in America or are made in America by another manufacturer a small manufacture. This is not patriotism it is hypocrisy at its finest and every citizen of the United States including myself takes part in promoting this hypocrisy every day in one shape or another. I looked at my Hunter's Specialty packs and bags, All of them Made in China. I know that they are an Iowa based company, but facts are I wont quit using them but when the time comes to replace them...I will be looking for something from another company. I was proud that: My bows are all manufactured in U.S. My Arrows Manufactured in U.S. My Broadheads Manufactured in the U.S. My Lighted Knocks Manufactured in the U.S. All my Vehicles Bicycle Camo Clothing is Manufactured in U.S. but Cloth is Made in China Here's the crazy part All of the below items are "Made in China"

My
Gutting Glove Kits
Cheesecloth Bags
Nylon Rope
Toilet Paper for Tracking
Flashlight Batteries
Notebooks for writing in
Climbing Tree Stand
Several of my Hang-On Treestands
Several of my Climbing Sticks
4 Wheeler
Motorcycles
Deer Cart
Ground Blind
Cloth for my Camo
Tracking Markers
Wind Checker
Grunt Tube
Can Calls
Snort Wheeze Call
knives
pruning saw
What this tells me is that I cannot BLAME my Government for Americans loosing Jobs. I contribute to this problem as much or more than the government does. We all say that its because the government allowed free trade with China and Mexico. Well are we all bunch of stupid 5 year olds that NEED someone to tell US HOW, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE TO PURCHASE? Who's actually doing all the PURCHASING OF THOSE GOODS AND PRODUCTS, WE ARE AMERICANS, the government isn't buying the peaches from Mexico, or the Toilet paper from China, or the electronics from Japan. WE THE PEOPLE CREATE THE TRADE DEFICIT.
I know that there has been a lot of debate about our new President, (does not matter what side you are on) versus the old ways. But if every American hunter estimated at 45,000,000 total were to STOP purchasing $100.00 worth of product(s) annually that are manufactured in china (as long as there was an American made equivalent). As you can see this creates no hardship on the hunter, just a little THOUGHT. $4,500,000,000.00 annually would be pumped back into the American economy. I am talking about spending. $0.27 per day on American Made Hunting and Outdoor related products instead of Non-American Made Products. Now relate this to everyday life. 217,800,000 people over the age of 18 in the U.S. if each of us were to spend $100 LESS (annually) on Chinese made products and take that money and save it on American made products (everyday items).
It would generate $21,780,000,000.00 directly into the American economy. Now this takes some thinking and a little thought process, next time you go to the store and look at a can of Peaches or a can of beans, if they are "packaged in mexico" or you are looking a dish soap, or laundry detergent and they say "manufactured in china for Walmart" buy something else if its available and even if it costs a few cents more. You will be saving someone's job. The median Household income (according to the census) in America in 2007 was $50,233.00. So if all Americans were to spend $100.00 less per year on non-American made products and take that same money and spend it on American made products. We would save the equivalent of 433,579.52 middle class jobs. I know this doesn't take into account overhead profit etc. (bear with me I am on a soap box here)
If any of you disagree with what I am talking about here. We as sportsmen/women can make an impact that directly affects, the lives of 89,583 American families. Just by spending $100.00 per year more on American made items vs. non-American made items. I know that it could mean that some companies won't be able to compete, because they are really importers, who profess patriotism while letting the American way of life erode for profits and big gains, because Walmart has a factory in China that pays its workers 3.00 per hour instead of a factory here in the U.S. that pays its workers 14 per hour plus benefits. I am not blaming the poor Chinese worker trying to feed his wife and children, I blame myself for 40+ years of buying whatever was "on sale" or the cheapest.
I am not going to promise that I can stop purchasing EVERYTHING that isn't made in America, that's pretty much unreasonable, but I can try to purchase $100.00 per year on American made items versus non-American made items. Anyone else yah or ney for this proposition. If you are for it, then please forward this onto every website and forum you can are active on.

Sincerely, gamohunter

2009 Suburban Bowhunting Adventures Post #5

Friday August 21, 2009: I pulled the SD Card from my camera today. There were 637 video clips on the 4Gig card. But the most exciting thing today is my oldest son and I went to Whitetail Archery in order to get him qualified for the Urban Hunting Season and for me to sight in my indoor target bow which is actually my BuckMaster 4000 I used for the 2006 season, I forgot how well that bow shoots and how fast it is. Anyway here are some photos and videos from the trail camera.

I literally only had this camera out for 1 day with apple flavored corn and the deer hit it like crazy. This ia moultrie I40 camera set to standard definition video, but the avi has been converted to mpeg
I can't wait only about 3 weeks until the season starts.

2009 Suburban Bowhunting Adventures Post #4

Thursday August 20th, 2009: It was a lazy day today, I have been trying to figure out how to have a better control over my JVC GZ-HDU7 digital video camera. Since the camera uses an Infrared remote, when I bought it last year I thought that it would work great for outdoor work, the camera has automatic or manual focus, automatic or manual night vision, it takes photos and video its 3CCD and 1080i HD and uses a harddrive so no tapes to loose.

Well a couple of problems with this camera, the sensor for the remote is of course on the front of the camera and for all of you who bowhunt with a camera know that doesn't do much for you if you are recording yourself. So I have been experimenting with Fiber Optical cable. I have been able to attach a Toslink Fiber Optic Cable to the LED on the remote and then I attached the other end in front of the sensor on the camera, WOW the response of the remote/camera is so much faster. I now have ordered the necessary proper connectors to make this work on any remote.

So if you are using a camera with a wireless remote you can do this as well.

2009 Suburban Bowhunting Adventures Post #03

Tuesday August 18th, 2009: My son and I went to our LL property and checked our camera. Looks like one doe and a turkey on video. We also went down to the police station and picked up the rules for the Urban Deer Management zone so we could deliver them to to the proshop Whitetail Archery. My youngest son Drew-Shawn and I shot and both of us qualified on the proficiency test.

Here's a video using the Epic Stealth Cam. I am not too impressed with this camera's video quality but it will work for a back-up camera.

2009 Suburban Bowhunting Adventures Post #02

August 16th, 2009 Well I have had a bit of an obstacle with my QPM property which is a commercial property owned by a large corporation, this year they were requiring proof of insurance. It was much harder than I thought to find insurance for bowhunting. The cheapest I could find it was 550.00 per year from a "hunter's insurance agent", but he was trying to insure me for 1,000,000.00 and it wouldn't cover a calendar year, it went from August to August. It was really set-up for clubs. Anyway I made a phone call to my homeowner's insurance company and come to find out I am ALREADY covered for hunting and recreational activities liability (personal and property damage) insurance up to $300,000.00 per incident.
I ran into Sgt. Jones today and he said I could come down and pick-up the rules and we could start qualifying for in-town season. I have to go down in the morning and pick-up the information.

PERMISSION GRANTED: I gained permission for another great property about 10 acres on the edge of town. On a great travel route. Thick brush and timber. Owner and I talked on the phone today and he said no problem just stop in and talk to the front desk when I show up out there. That gives me exlusive rights to five prime properties in town a total of about 300 acres or so in the city limits. I have been talking with Matt Short aka "The Huntin Junky" he has an awesome podcast, and is helping me to get my podcast together. If you get a chance go and visit his site. One guy with no camera man.

2009 Suburban Bowhunting Adventures Post #01

2009 Suburban Bowhunting Adventures
August 14th, 2009: Well its about a month until the bow season starts. I am looking very forward to getting back in the woods. Its amazing how hard it is to get through the summer. Generally I would of spent a lot of time at 3D tournaments, but due to health issues, I had to take it easy. A couple of surgeries later I am back in the game. I am very excited for this upcoming season. I will be trying to video tape as many hunts as possible and I have build my own trail camera system that uses 4 cameras that transmit wirelessly to a base unit. Some new equipment that I am going to be using this year is a miltary web ladder and some foot pegs that I build myself.
