2009 Suburbanbowhunting Adventures
2009 Suburbanbowhunting Adventures:
Tuesday December 22nd 2009: 2pm Stardust Motel I setup a Primos GroundMax Vision Ground blind. Unfortunately I see zero deer plenty of tracks but no deer it could be that the shotgun season has the deer spooked. I will try hunting again on the 26th.

2009 Suburban bowhunting adventures
December 12th 2009 Yesterday was my youngest daughter's 14th birthday. I decided to go out today around 3pm and hunt for about 2 hours the weather wasn't too bad, about 25 deg and a south wnd. I decided to set a new stand because my standby stand was not working. As I am setting up I look over to the SE of me and I see what looks like a coyote runnning I hurry up and set the stand in a white oak tree about 50 yards south of my LLSWP stand. By the time I get up in the tree here comes two dogs barking. These dogs chased an 8 pointer about 120inch right by my tree.
One of the dogs come bag I yell at it and it takes off. Today I am trying to get a doe killed. About 15 minutes go by I look back to the south and another small 8 pointer is about 50 yards below one of the dogs on the opposite ridge about 1000 yards away. He heads down into the marsh and comes up right into my shooting lane hot on the trail of something because his nose was nearly touching the snow.
About 10 minutes pass and I again look to the south ridge and a doe comes out of the brush heading east she keeps looking back behind her but nothing ever comes out.
I get down about 515pm and when I hit the ground there is a doe there waiting for me she was just as surprised as I was she took off running back to the north she didn't wind me and she was directly north of me with a steady south wind. All in all another great day to be a bowhunter.

2009 Suburban Bowhunting Adventures
12-05-2009 I decided to go hunting on the southside of LL property I used my climber because I had pulled it down last night. I got into a tree setup and waited about 20 minutes before sundown 3 does come from south of me out of the bottom marsh. I pretty sure now the majority of all the deer are down in the bottoms. The deer take forever to work their way to me its two large does and one yearling fawn. It is too dark to shoot so I just watch them I am up 30 ft if they had of come out earlier I think I would of had a shot. Now I think I need to start hunting from a ground blind. I can set it up in the bottoms and the deer won't know I am there, Plus there will be better chance because of a much clearer shot path. I also drove by the mall there were 6 does bedded down at 645pm. I need to get in there and try to get some killed. We are supposed to have a south wind so we will see how that does.
New Stand Location LL Property
12-04-2009 Using MUDDY climbing sticks and a MUDDY stand I hiked 500 yards west of my location. I hung me stand and waited. I was a bit upset because I had not taken the right opportunity to organize my gear after a 1/2 dozen hunts or so your gear begins to get a bit disorganized. Well to make a long story short I grunted a bit watched a couple of gray squirrels then to the east of me out of no where a small 8 point buck appears. I look to the North of me and there are two does feeding in the yards. What I like the most is that this was a steady 10 mile an hour west wind and this buck was 50 yards directly east of me and he never spooked. I was wearing two layers of synthetic under garments, a layer of thermal underwear, a pair of thermal coveralls and on top of that my STICKSNLIMBS coveralls. My boots are 15inch Guide Gears from Sportsmansguide. It is a great thing to be able to be warm and concealed. Needless to say the deer moved on and I got down right after dark. All in all it was cold 13degs but a good hunt tomorrow is the opening day of shotgun season, I am not hunting the morning, but afternoon should be a good time to be in a border property because the shotgun season will drive deer into town. Bowhunters cannot bowhunt during the gun. Seasons but we can in urban zones.
